Russia attacked Ukrainian territory with missile and drone attacks through the night on Saturday and into Sunday morning, concentrating on the key western urban center of Lviv.

Ukraine's neighbour Poland deployed fighter jets to protect the security of Polish airspace, the Polish military confirmed. Allied Nato aircraft were similarly activated.

Regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi reported two people were killed in strikes in the area, and two more injured.

In other developments, Russia once more struck Ukraine's power plants - and one was struck in an nocturnal assault on Zaporizhzhia, where the city official reported one person died and over seventy-three thousand residents were lacking power.

Defensive Measures

These attacks came days after a American representative stated the US would support Ukrainian forces conducting long-range attacks within Russia's borders.

"Our and partner nations' jets are operating in our airspace, while land-based anti-aircraft systems and surveillance radars have been brought to the highest state of readiness," military officials stated.

At 05:10, the entire country was under air raid alerts following air defense warnings of Russian missile and drone attacks.

Energy System Attacks

Russian military has escalated its assaults against Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Lviv's mayor local officials reported several districts - 43 miles from the Polish frontier - had no power, adding that the local anti-aircraft units were engaged heavily in countering first a drone and then a Russian missile attack.

As of 07:30, multiple areas were left without power and public transport was not operational, with authorities emphasizing that it was "dangerous to go out into the streets".

In the Zaporizhzhia area, the nocturnal assault left "more than 73,000 consumers... without electricity", according to Ivan Fedorov.

One person was fatally wounded, and nine others hurt, authorities said.

A 16-year-old girl was among those requiring hospital treatment, he added, posting photos apparently showing a partly destroyed multi-storey block and a burnt-out car from the impact location.

Regional Impact

Municipal transit in Ivano-Frankivsk, would "start running later than usual" on Sunday morning, its city administration said.

The multiple strikes were components of Moscow's offensive against the entire nation during the night.

At around early morning, Ukrainian defense officials warned all of the country was facing danger of fresh Russian missile attacks, following hours of air raid alerts and warnings of drone and missile attacks.

Occupied Regions

Russian forces have taken control of most of the Donbas area, including key eastern cities.

Russia currently controls around a fifth of Ukraine's land, including the Crimean peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.

International Context

In Russian territory, air defence units eliminated multiple UAVs during the night, media outlets reported on Sunday.

Recently, a US Special Envoy said that the US would back Ukraine launching deep strikes within Russia.

Meanwhile, another Nato member - the Baltic nation - had to suspend flights temporarily after objects were spotted.

Lithuania suspended flights at its largest and busiest international airport for multiple hours, before reopening it at early morning on Sunday.

The airport's operator said the flight suspensions and reroutings were "because of a possible series of aerial objects heading toward the aviation facility".
