This Horror Movie's Strange Ending Revealed

For those wanting a gory thriller movie that offers mindless entertainment while making you wince, chances are Bone Lake is on your attention. A recent scary film from director Mercedes Bryce Morgan arrived at movie houses on October 3rd with an absurd premise and a suggestive title to suit.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the ending of Bone Lake.

A Mix of Comedy and Horror

With a name like Bone Lake and an introductory scene featuring people sprinting stark naked through the forest—only to be shot with a bow in vulnerable spots—it's safe to assume there's a lot of humor throughout the story. Additionally, the film's ending, which portray the central pair exhausted and injured yet chuckling madly side by side, have a feeling of macabre comedy.

One would have to find something to smile at, also, if you went through what the character Diego and Sage face in Bone Lake. A couple riddled with relationship problems from the get-go—poor dialogue, unsatisfying sex, an disproportionate load of financial responsibility, and more—their relationship is challenged when a second pair, the character Will and Cin, interrupt their romantic weekend.

A Dark Turn

Seemingly at the start to be a contrast of contrasts between the duos—Diego and Sage are clumsy and everyday people, whereas Cin and Will have a affluent, opulent existence and are seen kissing on every surface possible—shifts to horror as the weekend unfolds. Cin and Will play on Sage and Diego's insecurities in their union. They circulate falsehoods and talk about the protagonists, stating to be aware of an infidelity and other internal drama.

All of these insecurities burst in the most extreme way conceivable when Sage and Diego discover that Cin and Will are not merely here at Bone Lake by mistake: they possess it and have been luring pairs to the property in order to get them to stray on their partners. Why? As Cin and Will are actually siblings. After their forbidden relationship was discovered by their mother and father and they were split apart against their will, they resolved to punish all others (including their parents). Given that the world rejected them simply for their desired relationship, then they'll turn against the society. Will and Cin's goal is to show a reflection to all the duos they eventually end up eliminating, in an attempt to show that their love is no less real (or illegitimate) as the connection of these different pairs they try to split.

Surprising Resilience

Yet, what Cin and Will overlook is that Sage and Diego, in spite of their lack of communication with one another, do care for and love each other. It required having a killer pair try to break them up and murder them to realize it. While it appears serious, it is not presented that way. Bone Lake's style is more camp than genuine horror.

The film concludes with Sage and Diego working together to evade Cin and Will's killer motives. Notably is that while, at the beginning of the film, you sense a deep abyss in the relationship between Sage and Diego in contrast to Will and Cin, by the conclusion, Bone Lake flips it on its head. Cin and Will go their own ways to pursue Diego and Sage, but Diego and Sage are communicating better by this point. They team up to butcher Will with a chainsaw. They after that attack the character Cin, who dies horribly at the bottom of Bone Lake's lake—but just before the character Diego retrieves the engagement band meant for the character Sage that Will had taken and gifted to Cin.

Consequences

In the aftermath of their double murder, drenched in blood and viscera, Diego and Sage are seated on the edge of a vessel. Unexpectedly, this is the most intimate they've been since the outset of the film, since all their romantic problems have been revealed for each of them to observe, and all they have to hold onto are their injured and sore bodies. As though to affirm their new closeness and profound insight of one another, the character Diego reaches over to put the wedding ring on Sage's digit and, when she rotates to examine it in the light, the pair start chuckling.

One can easily to see why: When, the character Will asked for marriage to Cin, it was a idyllic, affectionate instant. However, when the character Diego does the same for the character Sage, they've only survived a horrific ordeal. Nonetheless, the character Diego's proposal to the character Sage is not based on lies, simply the awareness that they've come out of the worst ordeal of their time and, following all that, they even now desire to pass the future together with each other.

Filmmaker's Insight

But, as director Mercedes Bryce Morgan explains, the ending may not lead to a perfect future for the couple.

"If you go through that situation with a partner where you endure a murderous bloodbath, what do you emerge from that? What do you do as a individual? Thus I wanted to capture all of the moments there together where it's this elation of 'thank goodness' and 'are we getting what we've longed for, but what on earth occurred? How in the world do we do at this point?' Plus that sinking in of reality of 'what are the implications for us {now|today|from
