Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered plenty of entertaining indie games. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a hero that is actually a piece of poop trying to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: you only need a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a shop to acquire customizations for your dung hero.
Plan your actions with caution, since one wrong move requires restarting the level. Bounce on floating orbs to launch the poop higher, navigate crumbling platforms, and touch buttons to unlock hidden paths. Collect coins to purchase tougher game content where things ramps up.
Visually, the game boasts eye-catching environments and a killer music score. The retro visual style of moving geometric shapes could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to recall other games where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often featured toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, this theme appears a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, like being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on PC on November 19.
